ASEANTA for the 1st time, has been given the honour to host, in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, the Travel Exchange or TRAVEX component of ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2014.
The TRAVEX is one of the main highlights of the ATF 2014 which provides a crucial platform encouraging collaboration between regional and international tourism businesses to be forged and new ideas created.
JAPAN'S Wakayama Prefecture will play host to the second edition of the ASEAN Tourism Association (ASEANTA) Board Members Meeting from today until August 1.
ASEANTA president, Mohd Khalid, will lead the 30-strong delegation from the 10 ASEAN countries for the second ASEANTA meeting for the year, to be held in Shirahama City.
The agenda includes a table-top discussion and networking session with key representatives of more than 30 organisations from the local travel trade in Wakayama, a tour around the city for inspection and the annual fireworks festival.
ASEAN Tourism Association (ASEANTA) is determined to play a larger role within the regional tourism landscape, a goal it is working towards by seeking out new sources of income.
The association’s newly elected president, Mohd Khalid Harun, said: “We would like ASEANTA to be able to advise the governments in terms of policies and be actively involved in decision-making.”
He added that, at times, there were decisions taken by the governments that ASEANTA was not aware of and could have given its input on.
BANGKOK, 25 March 2011 — ASEAN Tourism Association signed off, Thursday, on the final verison of an agreement drafted last January that authorises the Singapore-based travel comparisons website, Wego.Com, to market and build bookings through the association’s website Southeastasia.Org.
Wego.Com was involved in Aseanta’s official website from its launch in 2009, sub-contracted by USAID’s ACE project, which funded the site’s development until October year.
