NATAS President Assumes ASEANTA Presidency Ahead Of ATF 2017 In Singapore

PUTRAJAYA, 14th January 2017 – In the run up to the

36th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2017 to be held in Singapore from 16th to 20th January 2017 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Mr. Devinder Ohri – President of the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore – (NATAS) has assumed the Presidency of ASEANTA – the ASEAN Tourism Association.

Singapore is honoured to host ATF 2017, themed - "Shaping our Tourism Journey Together". Alongside ASEAN’s 50th anniversary in 2017, the annual event will involve all 10 member nations of ASEAN in a cooperative regional effort to promote ASEAN as a single tourism destination. The weeklong event comprises TRAVEX (a business to business Exhibition and Exchange where tourism Buyers from around the world systematically meet tourism Sellers from the ASEAN region in pre-arranged or scheduled appointments), ASEAN Tourism Conference – (ATC) – a showcase Seminar where invited Speakers, Moderators and Panellists can exchange views on the latest industry developments and challenges, National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) Meetings and ASEAN Tourism Minister’s Meetings.

“It is indeed a humbling honour to be accorded the privilege to helm ASEANTA in this the year in which ATF is being held in Singapore. To top that, 2017 also marks a major milestone, with ASEAN celebrating the 50th Anniversary since its founding. In this our Golden Jubilee year ASEANTA has joined the many other stakeholders in celebrating the whole year as VisitASEAN@50. This poignantly commemorates the coming of age of ASEAN being promoted as a single destination, which was the vision that our founding fathers had in mind with great foresight half a century ago” said Mr. Devinder Ohri. ASEANTA has several key initiatives already in place in support of Visit ASEAN@50 and Mr. Devinder Ohri intends to ensure the seamless progression of these initiatives initiated by his predecessor such as the “ASEAN Sky Caravan” and the “ASEANTA Excellence Awards 2017” which are targeted for presentation on “ASEAN Day”, which falls on 8th August 2017, being the date on which ASEAN was founded. Other noteworthy initiatives will be the multiple ASEAN cities packages and the “ASEANTA Tourism Honourees” project.

Ohri takes over from Ms. Aileen C. Clemente of the Philippines who has very ably helmed the Association since 2015 and leaves the Association in a much stronger position than when she took over 2 years ago.

Said Ms. Clemente, "It has been a pleasure and honour working with the ASEANTA Board whom I would like to thank for their camaraderie and support. Most of all I am grateful for the opportunity to have been of service to the ASEANTA community.” Ms. Clemente has pledged her support to help see through those projects she initiated and are still work-in-progress. “Aileen’s track record and selfless dedication to the Association will be a hard act to follow and we’re both committed to seeing these through to fruition.” added Mr. Ohri.
