ASEANTA Secretariat opens in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR - The New ASEAN Tourism Association's (ASEANTA) Secretariat Office has come online with from March 24. Situated in Tourism Malaysia's offices at Menara Dato Onn, Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur, the Secretariat is headed by Sebastian Lo as its executive director. With the setting up of a permanent secretariat in the Malaysian capital, ASEANTA is poised to embark on a series of projects in 2003 focused on developing international travel into ASEAN, as well as promoting inter and intra-ASEAN tourism growth, the secretariat said in a press release. As part of its strategic business plan, ASEANTA is looking at ways to form partnerships and working closely with industry, public sector and other private businesses to promote the ASEAN region as a destination of choice for both leisure and business travellers, thereby benefitting all its members. ASEANTA has also set its sights on further raising the benchmark for tourism related services in ASEAN by consulting with members on their needs, and working with highly regarded vendors to provide training and quality certification programmes for members. ASEANTA's vision is to be recognised as the premier travel association for the region.
